Andy Warhol
Andy
Warhol (August 6, 1928 - February 22, 1987) was an American
painter, filmmaker, publisher, and a major figure in the pop
art movement.
Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, United States, to immigrants of Ruthenian ethnicity
from the village of Mikova, Austria-Hungary (northeast Slovakia)
. He showed early artistic talent, and studied commercial
art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now known as
Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh. Upon graduating
in 1949, he moved to New York City and began a successful
career in magazine illustration and advertising. He became
well-known mainly for his whimsical ink drawings of shoes
done in a loose, blotted style.
Andy Warhol suffered Asperger's syndrome.
